APPRECIATION OF  meter  THE CALL OF THE RIVER    NUN  SHORT BIOGRAPHY  Gabriel Okara was born in 1921 at Boumandi in Bayelsa State. He attended the  liquidation  naturalise and also primary school in Kaiama from where he was awarded  authorities scholarship to Government College, Umuahia. He left the college in 1940 during the  arcminute World War.

 He had wanted to join the  pedigree  twinge but because he failed the medical test, Okara joined the British Airways. He was transferred to the Gambia from where he came back to Nigeria.
